Situation
Glenview-area resident Bob Caldwell was referred to Len Roofing for our previous experience with shingle selection and installation. He lived in a beautiful brick home complete with a classic-style organic shingles. The shingles were made with asphalt and wood fiber materials, which, over time, became warped with a crinkle-like appearance due to cycles of getting wet then drying. Bob wanted to update the shingles with a unique style and a modern material but wasn’t exactly sure what style to select.
Challenges
There were two challenges to replace the shingles on Bob’s home:
- Finding the perfect shingle material and style
- Installing the selected shingle on a roof with flat and sloped areas
Upon further review of his current shingles, we suggested that adding more ventilation, water proofing, and leak barriers would allow Bob’s new shingles to last longer while maintaining a sleek appearance.
Our team gave him options to select the best shingle style, material, and supporting services. We clearly presented the scope of the work before starting the work to ensure Bob was comfortable with the service. After explaining how the shingle style, color, material, and suggested services would improve the shingles’ longevity and appearance, he was ready to get started.
Solutions
To tackle the first challenge, Len Roofing sourced some materials and shingle styles. We shared those options with Bob and worked together to find the best selections for his home. After presenting each option, we asked him what parts of the shingle style he liked and didn’t like. This allowed us to understand what he was looking for. After sharing a few iterations, we found the perfect style for his home. The shingle that Bob chose complemented the brick exterior of his home and aligned with his requirement to have a unique shingle style.
Once we finalized the scope of the project, we began tackling the second challenge: Bob’s roof had both flat and angled sections. We needed to use two different products to accommodate these styles. After receiving these materials, we began installing the new shingles. It turned out that shingles required a more challenging installation process compared to standard shingles. During the installation process, we also enhanced Bob’s ventilation, water proofing, and leak barriers. We focused on precision to ensure the new shingles would look perfect and last for years.
Outcome
Bob wanted a unique shingle that could withstand the elements without crinkling. Our team worked with him to find the right product, installed, and enhanced his ventilation and leak barriers to ensure that the shingles would maintain their fresh, sleek appearance for years to come.
