You have better things to be doing than worrying about your roof this winter.
Hopefully, your fall gutter cleaning and roof inspection went well, and you can simply enjoy the snowy weather without worrying about what the spring will bring you.
We thought we would share our favorite winter pastimes instead of sharing roofing tips that you probably can’t act on until spring anyway.
Without further ado, here are things to do this winter.
Build Gingerbread Houses
Speaking of roofs, designing one with frosting and gumdrops is a good time and A LOT less expensive and time consuming as designing a real roof.
Sure, you can build a gingerbread home with children But that’s not all. There are also very adult and sophisticated takes on them too. Here are some tips to take your gingerbread home to the next level:
- Roof style: Adding dormers to your gingerbread home’s roof immediately makes it more sophisticated and realistic. Or construct a different shape than the traditional gable roof. A hipped roof and a mansard roof are great options.
- Siding: Many of the realistic gingerbread homes we love have siding, often made from KitKat bars, strips of gingerbread, or other long, thin candies.
- Entry porches: Another hallmark of a more true-to-life gingerbread house is an entryway. Build one around your home’s door. We love the idea of using candy canes as pillars.
Go Ice Fishing
If you’re the type of person who likes to contemplate life in quiet environments, then ice fishing is an experience you will want to try at least once.
On the frozen lake, you can contemplate life in deep silence, punctuated by the excitement of a fish on the line. We recommend you tag along with someone who’s experienced. They will also be able to point you to the best areas for fish.
Sledding
Sledding is one of the great joys of winter.
It’s a fun activity for both kids and adults, and it’s a great way to get outside and enjoy the snow. Some tips:
- Make sure you’re dressed warmly. It’s important to stay dry, so avoid cotton clothes that will absorb moisture and make you cold.
- Choose a hill that isn’t too steep. You don’t want to go too fast and lose control of your sled.
- Be cool. That means being considerate of other sledders and respecting their space.
Gratitude Journaling
Thanksgiving just passed, and you probably took some time to consider what you were grateful for. Continuing that practice throughout the winter can be fruitful. That’s especially true after the holidays when all of the excitement of the season has died down, but things are still cold.
Beat the winter doldrums by giving these activities a try!
